Opening of ALFARO SIZA exhibition
The Espai Alfaro will open its doors on Thursday 24 May at 7 pm for the opening of the exhibition ALFAROSIZA.
It collects and exhibits for the first time works on different surfaces and mediums, belonging to different artistic fields, of these two great artists. The incursions of one and the other in sculpture, drawing and architecture, and the undeniable and striking relationship between their creations, are the great attraction.
Media such as Las Provincias, La Vanguardia or Valencia Plaza, have echoed the news.

Fran Silvestre will give a conference on April 26th in Kansas City, USA, where he will talk about the creative process of the studio Fran Silvestre Architects.
The Valencian architect is currently a visiting professor at the Kansas State University, through the Victor L. Regnier Chair.
According to architecture critic and journalist David Cohn, “The designs transform the particulars of each building into simple schemes of expansive spatial relations, using a formal vocabulary of abstract lines, planes and, in certain cases, simple curves, in a rather Miesian idealization of Modernism. Silvestre’s works comprise a series of repetitions and variations on these spatial themes, which in their chronological development trace his growth as an architect, the expanding reach of his formal investigations, and the impact of adapting this formal repertoire to new problems and larger programs. […] His art, for all its abstraction, is more about the problem at hand, and how to create a setting for daily life that lifts us out of the ordinary, and towards a more complete and awakened sensual engagement with our surroundings”. Fran Silvestre will reveal the most important values of the architecture firm and the methods used by the studio to achieve such innovative projects.
The conference will take place at the ‘Nelson Atkins Museum’, designed by renowned American architect Steven Holl. This is a free event, although tickets are required and can be purchased through the museum’s website.

Winners
Macrocomplex competition
The proposal is conceived as a system of aggregation, controlling its volume impact in the area and giving place to surprising spaces.
This system is based on the Mat-Building, understood as a potentially infinite interior space which incorporates in its genetic matrix the idea of growth, diminution and change.
This way, the project starts from a basic form, made by the intersection of a circle and a square. This form keeps aggregating to itself, putting together an itinerary that allows the user to move around the different parts of the centre in a controlled manner, and once the route is over, to go back to the ground floor where the warehouse is located, to proceed to check-out.

There is a distinct pleasure in restoring an old object. Let’s take for instance an old flexo, one of those that were used in the drawing tables of the technical offices.
First, to understand it, disassemble it with care, clean the rusted parts, repaint it, chrome the elements that require so, replace the old cable with one that resists the new voltage and do the same with the lamp holder and the switch, search in unexpected places for a new coil to replace a damaged one. Intervening only where is necessary provides the object with a new life, thus displaying itself, a hundred years later, ready, as newly manufactured.
The same attitude was assumed in this building, which dates from 1905 and is a sample of the Valencian architecture of the early twentieth century. Located in the first expansion district of the city a, it was designed by the architect Antonio Martorell, considered as one of the most distinguished architects of his time. The objective was to transform the headquarters of a historic Valencian company that sought to renovate its facilities in order to adequate them to the technological changes experienced in recent years. The building was initially conceived as a residential building, although it was used as the headquarters of this company from the beginning.
