HOUSE IN

KOH SAMUI

KOH SAMUI

Located on a privileged plot with spectacular ocean views, the house in Koh Samui is situated on an elevated position on the land, allowing for an almost uninterrupted visual connection with the horizon. The main architectural objective is to maximise these views towards the sea, whilst protecting it from rear views and ensuring privacy from neighbours. Thus, the house appears to float on top of a mountain, giving the feeling of isolation and serenity.

The design is organised around two main levels: an upper level housing the social areas and a lower level reserved for more intimate and staff spaces. The upper level is conceived to function as an independent unit, with a master bedroom and common areas such as the kitchen, living room and dining room, which flow out onto a spacious terrace with an infinity pool that visually blends with the sea. This floor is the social heart of the house, capable of functioning on its own on a day-to-day basis.

The architecture of the house follows a composition of slabs that are divided into two horizontal white plans, creating a dynamic and elongated façade that varies depending on the room and its orientation, blurring its boundaries. This system of superimposed plans also facilitates the incorporation of structural elements such as trusses, allowing for large cantilevers and open spaces with minimal visible structural intervention. The design not only maximizes the views, but also integrates the technical facilities in the spaces between the plans.

The lower level houses a second master bedroom, as well as other complementary rooms, including a gym and additional staff spaces. On this level, the relationship between the interior and exterior is reinforced by bathrooms and showers that open onto the landscape, blurring the boundaries between them.
Given the pronounced slope of the plot, a landscape design has been created that integrates the construction organically with its surroundings, respecting the terrain and reducing earthworks to a minimum. The landscaping intervention is combined with a design that emphasizes the visual connection with the environment, using natural materials and neutral colors that harmonize with the landscape, providing an atmosphere of calm.

Simply a system of plans that seek to blur the boundaries of architecture in order to enjoy the natural environment of Koh Samui.
